I've just gotten back to work and normal life, and spent 1/2 the day with a co-worker removing the wing from the airplane, borrowing another co-worker's truck and hauling it down to Scaled, and beginning the repair process. I made up a 12 step plan (Hi, I'm Marc and my aircraft has a damaged wing) for the repairs.
First I removed all of the damaged layups and foam down to clean foam and clean layups. I was able to determine that ONLY the last structural layup on the bottom of the wing that joins the winglet to the wing was damaged, but it was a bit more than I had originally thought - about 20% of it was "holed" in the center. I also removed the damaged areas out at the tip of the aileron down to clean foam.
Next, we made some templates to hot-wire a new lower winglet, and we micro'ed some blue foam into the hole punched in the winglet/wing layup. Tomorrow, we'll hot-wire the lower winglet and I'll try to glass it, glass the patch on the hole, and make some TE foam replacement.
Hopefully I can finish all this up by the end of next weekend, but if
not, then one more after that should get all the layups done, micro applied and
sanded, and a coat of primer applied.
