This is a setup day. I had originally planned on starting training on April 2nd, but due to impending weather I moved the training up a day. Also, in order to be able to start training early on Friday morning, I wanted to get to Schenectady, NY late Thursday afternoon.
So the first day gets me out of Fitchburg, MA (KFIT), past NY to Schenectady, NY (KSCH) late in the afternoon. It should be about a 45 minute flight past Albany's Class C into the Class D at Schenectady. Bill Zaleski would pick me up at the airport and take me over to the Schenectady Days Inn where I'd be staying for the week.
Exactly as planned. Bill met me at "Fortune Air" at KSCH, we tied the plane down, and went inside to get acquainted, talk about some general plans, and go over my paperwork. He wanted to see my pilot certificate, medical certificate, birth certificate (all CFI's [Certified Flight Instructors] now have to make sure that their students are not terrorists, you know - we can thank the TSA for that bit of stupidity) and logbook. We then went out for dinner and had cheesesteak sandwiches at a diner.
Bill then dropped me off at the Days Inn, where I set myself up, got my internet connection working, called Deanie to tell her I wasn't dead yet, and studied Bill's instruction book for an hour or two to prepare for the next day. Bill will be picking me up at 8 AM to get some breakfast and get started.
