From: "John Slade" Subject: COZY: Quick build parts Date: Tue, 28 Sep 1999 14:53:11 -0400 A lot seems to have been happening in the area of "quick-build" options and prefab Cozy parts lately. Many builders seem to be moving that way. I understand that an AeroCanard SB (all molded Cozy MKIV parts, entirely authorized and approved by CO-Z Development except for the tub and main gear legs) is about to fly in the next few weeks. Personally, I'm enjoying the building experience, and I'm somewhat restricted by cash flow, so I'll probably be building everything myself. But, we could soon have an entirely authorized Cozy MkIV Kit which, I feel, bodes well for the growth of the design. One builder told me that he was going with prefab strakes because the plans strakes are too flat. Another raised his prefab turtleback to increase headroom. Another is using a Lancair canopy. I find it very useful to hear about other people's "deviations" [from plans] but lately I only get this information privately. Publically no-one wants to admit to changes they're making. 'Fess up people. What are you all up to? Come on. Let's hear about other people's experiences with pre-cut cores, molded tubs, spars & strakes etc. etc. Did they fit? How much time did they save? Was it worth it? OK. I'll shut up, for now. Got a plane to build! So far, I've made all the bulkheads 2" wider, with no other changes. The center section of the main spar and the canard will also both be 2" wider. As for sure how I'm going to deal with the cowlings, the nose cone, and the canopy...I'll let you know when I figure it out. I'll probably build some parts myself, and see about getting a custom canopy fab'ed. Doug Shepherd From: "DougSheph" Subject: COZY: Center Console, headrest question Date: Sat, 2 Oct 1999 18:49:26 -0700 Carl, I'm sorry, I 'misspoke' a bit. I'm not eliminating the center console in its entirety; I left it 1" tall for routing throttle cables and wiring through. I know it won't be as stiff as a taller section would be, but I can assure the floor of my completed tub (just finished Chapter 7 -- YAY!) is VERY stiff. Doug Shepherd
