The configuration is: dual, 2:1 belt driven independent propellers in a coaxial counter-rotating configuration. This means that there are two propellers, one behind the other about 6" apart, on the same axis. They are both pusher and are on the center line of the airplane (in the rear). The front three blade propeller rotates clockwise and the rear three blade prop rotates counterclockwise. They are both independent and are connected one to each engine. Both engines are inside the Cozy original coulings. The shaft is connected to the right hand engine driving the rear propeller throught multy-V belts. The forward propeller is driven by the left hand engine through a hollow shaft, same material. Both shafts are held rigidly to the engines with grease lubricated ball bearings. There seems to be no cooling problems with the bearings but we have not done all the test yet. regards Ruben and Carlos Leon Cozy Mk IV YV22X Varieze YV11X Date: Sat, 12 Apr 1997 10:38:55 -0400 From: "Ruben D. First the bad one. Going from Valencia to Puerto Plata (Dominican Republic), an alternator braket broke, what a horror (we'd never make it to Lakeland), But we were lucky, the braket broke in such way that we could tie it with wire. I dont have to mention that the trip from Puerto Plata to Ft. Lauderdale something move from our bottom to our neck and had a very long 5 hours to Miami. The good ones are: We were treated so nice by every one, we had intervews from diferent magazines and the discovery channel, went to the cozy dinner, meet new people, etc. We thank all you guys, now is time to go back to the shop to fix the glitches that we still have. Thanks a lot Ruben and Carlos Date: Wed, 09 Jul 1997 01:16:38 -0400 From: "Ruben D. This is to clarify the above; Test flight on the cozy twin has shown to hold altitude at 4000 ft. we have shot down one engine after take off 500 ft. agl in a actual emergency and have been able to go arround and land. (two people, full fuel). I do not recomend two engines for a beginer builder/pilot, it takes a lot of doing on maintenance and design work. The cozy has been a great airplane to test fly.
