Probably a very good idea, but definitely not the case. Nat _DOES_ insist that all builders have a current subscription to _his_ newsletter, and does pass along a lot of information there, but has no requirement (or even recommendation) to read the CP. >........ 3. I would tend to agree here - I think that Nat does the best he can with his newsletter, but there's a lot of info in the CP's that we have never been exposed to. >............ Can't answer for Nat - I don't know if _HE_ subscribes to the CP. He does on occasion mention (in his newsletter) things he sees in the CP, as well as the Central States Newsletter (and this forum, as we all know :-) ). I have definitely seen him mention safety related stuff from the CP in his newsletter, but I of course don't know what's been in the CP that he _hasn't_ mentioned. >..... What other discoveries from the past could you be "in the dark >about", I wonder? Lots, I'm sure. Your post has made me want to get a hold of all the back issues of the CP (as well as issues 1 - 34 of Nat's newsletter) and check everything out. >......... I don't mean to criticize anyone here. I honestly don't >know the nature or the extent of your methods of official >safety-information dissemination. I worry. Well, while I'm sure that we have missed some info from the CP's, and I do intend to get a hold of them and read them, COZY's have a good safety record and Nat does a good job of disseminating safety info of which he becomes aware, either through other newsletters or from builders (or accidents he's investigated). I can understand your worry, but I feel very confident that we're building safe aircraft (that of course could _always_ be made safer). Thanks for your though provoking comments. -- Marc J. Folks, before the topic cools off I must tell you the subject of wing root attach point drains was indeed covered in Nat's "noose" letters, as well as a lot of interesting safety stuff that all builders should be aware of. I stopped getting the newsletters becuase they became relevent mostly to 4place builders, the same is Not true of the earlier newsletters in respect to the 4 place design, all the info you need to know is there, including all the safety issues resolved and otherwise from the canard pusher, with excerpts as needed. The news letters are good reading if you are building, and knowing Nat I am very suprised he has not told all the 4 placers they need to have these issues. Gettem, theybegood, and they could stop you from boo boos. I say asking any questions is a good thing, it gets your head up and it is half the fun and learning in building, asking for and receiving all the gret help we all have to give. Howard, I also worry that Nat has obsoleted the newsletters from his updated Plans from ser# 500 and on. This means less printing for him when he sends newly purchased plans. I guess his thinking on this was that the new plans holders have updated plans that have all the updates from the older newsletters. Nat's newsletter says: First edition MKIV builders will need newsletters #34 on. Second edition MKIV builders will need newsletters #52 on. What about (Helpful Hints) that other builders have pass on in the other 51 newsletters. I hope the removal of the newsletters was not to keep new builders from knowing anything about AeroCad,s past agreement with Nat to build and sell replacement part. Shame Shame, if that's the truth. If this was just to get back at ME, a lot of information would have been lost that could keep a Cozy builder more on track with fewer mistakes . This is a great information form for ALL canard builders----Thanks to Marc I wish I had someone like him that was doing this for me. Alternatively, you can copy it from EZ-building friends, which is approved by Rutan. I still subscribe to support the newsletter but, honestly, there's not much new information for builders in it any more, except for warnings. I think you'd get everything you need from Nat's newsletter and the CSA newsletter. Good luck! Anyone know where to get this and how much $$$. Jim, The CD set you refer to is available from T.E.R.F., Inc., Brighton, MI, 810-229-2082. At $325.00 it's a little pricey but I got the hots and bought it at Oshkosh last year when it was introduced. You need a fairly quick CD ROM drive and CPU to get acceptable performance.... each page has been scanned in so the display time can be a bit slow. But....I've found it to be a facinating and worthwhile source of information; it has the plans for LE, VE, Solitaire, Variviggen, operators manuals, pictures, etc.,(one CD) as well as Canard Pushers from 1 to 83 (2 CDs). No Templates, unless you count the ones in the plans book. Full size drawing pages are not included. Comes with Acroread, a text reader complete with search engine for the Canard Pushers. Can be very handy if you travel frequently and carry a laptop....sure beats hauling the paper if you are inclined to read such material on the road. He had all the plans (minus the sheets of drawings) for all the Rutan planes as well as the Canard Pusher on CD. I think if I was starting out on a Long Eze I'd probably buy it. It would be a great suplement or possibly primary source for information. The downside is that he wanted in the neighborhood of $300. Since I already had the Cozy plans all that he had to offer was the Pusher. I bought a diskette version of that from Stett Elliot.
