We also had the canard OFF just in case. On this weekend we finally managed to take our COZY TWIN to the airport. We assembled it on saturday and did our first high speed taxi tests on the runway this Sunday. Everything went out quite nicely although the engines were running a little rough... they need a little tuning. The bad news: Empty weight is 1287 Lbs, 200 overweight. We can improve this by changing some steel parts in the engines with aluminum. There are pulleys, brackets, supports and flanges that can be improved. At the moment we'll just have to load the front with ballast and see what happens. The good news: The coaxial configuration behaved perfectly. No vibrations, nothing strange was felt, no problems with belts, etc. Power seems to be very high. We even managed to lift off using just one engine in about 4000 feet of runway under the following conditions: Take off roll: 4000 feet Temperature: 95 degrees F.(mid-day sun) Density Alt.: 4100 feet (1500 feet field altitude) Gross Weight: 1903 lbs (three on board) C.G.: 101.9" Prop: dual 3 blade Warp Drive Prop Engines: 2 Suzuki 1600cc, counter-rotating coaxial config. Dual engine operations feel powerful though we will not know until we do our first flight. Up to know we have only flown 5-10 feet above the runway up to its maximum length.
