Did the electric trim arise because of a true need or more for fun? Does it make trimming less frustrating - is the manual too coarse? Thank you for your input. Greetings fellow builders: Hugh asked, Did the electric trim arise because of a true need or more for fun? Does it make trimming less frustrating - is the manual too coarse? I rode in Nats plane this spring just after he installed the electric trim. His comment was that it provided a more positive (non slip) position to the elevator trim than the manual. The heavier the nose, the more trim friction is needed to hold a setting. I just tightened up the nut on top of the spring more, and that is with double springs instead of single. I wouldn't consider anything more complex. Incidently the nose is heavy due to a full IFR panel, front hinged canopy, a heating/defrosting system fed with the heat muff that I can fly in 15F weather in short sleeves, and many other pilot comforts. It was really inorying, especially near clouds. Without the GU canard trim problems, it is hopefully in the nice to have category. I'm going with it just in case.
