Date: 02 Jan 1997 13:32 EST From: "Michael Anderson" Subject: COZY: Chapter 7 Antenna Routing I'm getting ready to glass the bottom of the fuselage and will be installing the Marker Antenna as per RST's installation guide. I have two questions, that I was not able to find answers for in the archives. 1. When routing the coax in the foam where do I route it to? Obviously one end goes to the antenna but where does the other end go?? 2. The RST document shows the antenna going down the center of the fuselage. Should it be next to the landing brake cutout due to a metal brake deployment hardware? Obviously one end goes to the antenna but where does the other end go?? The other end will eventually go to the avionics. As such the coax should penetrate the fuselage and come up just behind the panel. Just provide an adequate length of cable, coil it up with some wire ties, and leave it for much later. If your cable has a BNC connection on the end of it, you may want to protect the connector by plugging it into a mating connector. 2. The RST document shows the antenna going down the center of the fuselage. Should it be next to the landing brake cutout due to a metal brake deployment hardware? There isn't that much metal involved here. One concern is that the antenna comes close to the brake cut out, so be carefull when placing it so that it doesn't interfere with the landing brake. The third picture on: http://www.ultranet.com/~marcz/cozy_mkIV/chapters/chap07.html shows the coax routing under the skin going forward and then jogging just to the right side of the center pillar of the Instrument Panel. The last picture on: http://www.ultranet.com/~marcz/cozy_mkIV/chapters/chap13_2.html shows the nose wheel cover, and you can just see the grey coax cable coming up through the fuselage bottom just to the left of the center section. So, the answer is "yes" :-). -- Marc J. Zeitlin Email: marcz@an.hp.com
